Passivhaus Certification First Public Building in Spain
On September 29, 2015, one day after the inauguration of the Municipal Library of Villamediana de Iregua, the official certificate from the Passivhaus Institute was received, certifying compliance with the Passivhaus standard. This certificate guarantees that the heating demand will be less than 15 kWh/m²a, that the total primary energy demand will be less than 120 kWh/m²a, that the air tightness value is less than 0.6 h-1 and that the comfort and hygiene conditions of the interior space are unbeatable.
The Villamediana de Iregua Library thus becomes the first public building in Spain certified with the Nearly Zero Energy Building standard. Passivhaus, being in turn the first certified Passivhaus building in La Rioja.
