The 10th Sustainable Construction Awards

PLAY ARCHITECTURE SUSTAINABLE CONSTRUCTION AWARD
Last Friday, May 9th, the Riojan architecture studio Play Arquitectura won the prestigious 2023-2024 National Sustainable Construction Award granted by the Regional Government of Castile and León. Play Arquitectura received the award in the Exterior Equipment category for the Parque Venecia Nursery School in Zaragoza, competing against highly significant architectural projects from across Spain.
Since their inception, the Castilla y León Sustainable Construction Awards have recognized projects and proposals that offer solutions through diverse design and construction strategies, from advanced technologies to minimalist and traditional approaches where sustainability plays a predominant role.
The awards ceremony coincides with its 20th anniversary and has been valued in the case of the Parque Venecia Nursery School The adaptation of prefabricated wood construction technology to a dynamic and graceful volume with origami-like shapes, integrating the rigorous Passivhaus standard with the discipline of Habitat Biology. The project, built by OCISA, also a Riojan company, was a major challenge, taking only six months to complete and withstanding a flood that inundated the neighborhood three months after its completion.
This award reinforces the path Play Arquitectura has taken since 2012 in its commitment to sustainability and high energy efficiency.
