Mijas Sports City Expansion
AND The project involves the construction of two buildings and new accesses to the sports city. The first building, which consists of a basement and three storeys, is intended for multiple sports uses, and the second building, which consists of a basement, ground floor and first floor, is intended for a therapeutic pool.
This project, which has a total constructed area of 3,853 m2 and another 450 m2 of urban development, has been designed to comply with the Passivhaus standard and incorporates many BREEAM certification strategies, including water cycle management and sustainable mobility.

Concept
In 2017, Play Arquitectura won the tender to design the extension of the Las Lagunas sports city in the municipality of Mijas in Malaga.
From a volumetric point of view, it is proposed to treat the access and playground spaces as a volume using a Flex-Brick canvas in such a way as to generate a sequence of 3 volumes that dialogue with the volume of the Theatre and establish an overall composition with the elevations of the educational buildings.
The proposal for an access volume also allows for the creation of access at a scale appropriate for the set of sports facilities it serves and for the city as a whole.
From the point of view of the composition of the façade and materials, a neutral composition of the façades facing Camino de Albero is proposed using large openings that respond to the scale of the facility in relation to the city.
The project obtained the Passivhaus pre-Audit in 2019 and construction work began on May 15, 2019.
