Aguilar de Campoo Health Center

LThe proposal for the new Aguilar de Campoo Health Centre presented in February 2020 consists of a volume with characteristics similar to those found in the immediate surroundings of the historic centre, which are mostly two-storey, compact parallapipeds with sloping roofs.

The proposal consists of a square building with two floors and a sequence of sloping roofs simulating the profile of the medieval city. It is precisely this profile of a sequence of sloping roofs that is the most characteristic design feature of the building, giving it a unique character typical of a public building.

Concept

For the building envelope, a ventilated façade and roof were proposed using 3 cm thick Toba stone in a 50×100 format as a continuous exterior cladding material. Toba stone is the one used in most of the buildings in the historic centre, extracted from a nearby environment as indicated by the toponymy of the Tobalina gate within the Jewish quarter.
The mixed carpentry made of white lacquered aluminium on the outside and laminated radiata pine on the inside simulates the appearance of the viewing points in Plaza de España, which are mostly made of white lacquered carpentry.
The new building has been designed using a 7.5x7.5 metre module in order to facilitate the construction process and provide it with flexibility of use. The module used generates a useful surface area of 50 m2, which is proportional to most of the modulations in the programme. A total of 60 consultation rooms are planned for a total constructed surface area of 5,880 m2.

In terms of sustainability, the building has been designed to comply with the Passivhaus standard and the BREEAM certificate.
