Doctors Castroviejo
ANDIn 2014, Play Arquitectura won the national competition to rehabilitate the former National Police building located at Calle Doctores Castroviejo 9 in the centre of Logroño.
The purpose of the renovation is to house units of the General State Administration and save the rental costs of other buildings currently occupied.

Concept
The project has a constructed area of 1,890 m2 that can accommodate the 4 planned units with 80 jobs.
The project proposes to rehabilitate the building under the almost zero energy consumption standard “Passivhaus” and the BREEAM certificate, obtaining energy savings of 93% and reduced maintenance costs, in line with the economic austerity criteria of the Ministry of Finance and Public Administrations.
It is the first public building in the State to have such high levels of energy efficiency and indoor environmental quality, and is therefore a pilot project.
Its comprehensive monitoring system enables monitoring and measurement of air quality, energy and water consumption, and the operation of the facilities.
The proposed design highlights the use of green facades on the side of the building facing Doctores Castroviejo Street, whose function is to phytopurify the grey water from the toilets so that it can be reused to irrigate the interior garden. At the same time, it allows for the absorption of CO2 and the reduction of the heat island effect.
The work was completed at the beginning of 2018 and obtained the Passivhaus and BREEAM Excellent certification, becoming the first public building in Spain to obtain both certifications.
