Esteban Pardo, representing Play Arquitectura, participated in the Construtec forum at the ePower&Building fair held at the Ifema exhibition centre in Madrid.

In the latest issue of the prestigious Irish magazine Passive House + Published in September 2016, an article on the subject of the international work has been included in the selection of international works. Municipal Library of Villamediana de Iregua.

The article describes graphically and textually the design and construction singularities of the building to achieve the Passive House standard in a climate in Northern Spain.  

On August 8, representatives of the Ministry of Finance and Public Administrations and the UTE HNV-OCISA signed the start of the works of the RComprehensive reform of the property located at 9 Doctores Castroviejo Street in Logroño, La Rioja.

The UTE HNV-OCISA was awarded the contract with a budget of €2,288,526 and a total execution period of 11 months.

With the start of this work, the renovation of the first public building in Spain that will comply with Passivhaus and BREEAM certifications begins, becoming a pilot experience for the public administration in terms of energy efficiency, comfort, health and sustainability.

On September 29, 2015, one day after the inauguration of the Municipal Library of Villamediana de Iregua, the official certificate from the Passivhaus Institute was received, certifying compliance with the Passivhaus standard. This certificate guarantees that the heating demand will be less than 15 kWh/m²a, that the total primary energy demand will be less than 120 kWh/m²a, that the air tightness value is less than 0.6 h-1 and that the comfort and hygiene conditions of the interior space are unbeatable. 

The Villamediana de Iregua Library thus becomes the first public building in Spain certified with the Nearly Zero Energy Building standard. Passivhaus, being in turn the first certified Passivhaus building in La Rioja.

On September 28, 2015, the museum was officially inaugurated. During the inauguration, which was attended by the President of the Autonomous Community of La Rioja, the President of the Autonomous Parliament, several Councillors, the Municipal Corporation and many citizens of the municipality, the Mayor of Villamediana de Iregua highlighted the municipality's commitment to energy efficiency and sustainability through Urban Planning and construction and rehabilitation with the Passivhaus standard.

On June 4, 2015, the final Blower door test was carried out at the The Library of Villamediana de Iregua with a result of 0.40 h-¹, thus improving the result obtained during the construction phase in March. The test was carried out again by Energiehaus and the staff responsible for the construction company Harinsa Navasfalt, the managers of the companies Onhaus, which supplied the sealing material, and Carpintería LLodiana, which supplied and installed all the windows in the project, as well as the technical management of Play Arquitectura, attended the event. With this test, the construction phase is practically complete and we are entering the final stretch of the Passivhaus standard certification. 

From Play Arquitectura we would like to thank the companies Harinsa Navasfalt, Onhaus, Carpintería LLodiana and Energiehaus for the effort, dedication and professionalism shown from the very beginning to ensure that the demanding construction requirements of the Passivhaus standard were met in the first public building in Spain.

On March 20, 2015, the first Blower Door test was carried out at the construction site of The Municipal Library of Villamediana de Iregua having obtained a very positive result of 0.43 h-1. The test was carried out by the company Energy House and also had the presence of the construction company Harinsa Navasfalt, the window company Ventaclim Llodiana carpentry, the Onhaus sealing company and the technical management. After the first test, a study of the tightness of all the gaps was carried out using a smoke detector, discovering and correcting some infiltration points. Once this first milestone has been overcome, the final works on interior and exterior cladding can be carried out with the aim of finishing the work during the next month of May and being able to open the doors of the first public Passivhaus building in Spain.

PlayArquitectura participated in the First Conference on the Passivhaus standard in La Rioja, offering a presentation on the keys to the Passivhaus standard in Building.

On October 17, PlayArquitectura participated in the 5th Spanish Passivhaus Conference held in Gijón, offering a presentation on the application of the Passivhaus standard in Urban Planning entitled Happy Urbanism

Playarquitectura made a trip to the towns of Torbole, Bolzano and Balazzo del Grappa accompanied by the IG Passivhaus Veneto association to visit buildings completed or under construction according to the Passivhaus standard.
